Kronos Optimal Health Centre Introduces Science-Based Optimal Nutrition Program
by Anonymous

PHOENIX, Ariz. – June 11, 2002 - The Kronos Optimal Health Centre today introduced the Kronos Circle of Nutrition, a straightforward, easy-to-understand graphic that describes Kronos’ Optimal Nutrition Program, designed to help people live as healthy as possible for as long as possible. The Kronos Circle of Nutrition places primary emphasis on the consumption of a balance of nutrient-dense carbohydrates, lean proteins and essential fats to ensure people receive specific amounts of the nearly 50 essential nutrients that a healthy body requires. Kronos is the premier provider of specialty preventive medicine programs and services to help individuals achieve and maintain optimal health. Its scientists and physicians research and practice Optimal Health, the science-based preventive approach to extending one’s vitality and functionality throughout life.

There are three main differences between the USDA’s Food Pyramid and Kronos’ Circle of Nutrition. According to Chris Heward, Ph.D., vice president of research and development at Kronos, The Optimal Health Company, the differences are, “First, the USDA encourages people to eat primarily breads, cereals and grains, which are at the base of the Pyramid and nutrient-depleted. Our Circle of Nutrition emphasizes only nutrient-dense carbohydrates and fewer of them. Second, the Food Pyramid discourages eating all fats, while the Circle of Nutrition promotes eating “good” fats, such as omega-3s, and avoiding “bad” fats, such as saturated fats. Lastly, our program advocates eating more protein than does the Food Pyramid. Our Circle of Nutrition is not hierarchical in nature, rather, it promotes balance as being the key to optimal nutrition.”

The Kronos Optimal Nutrition Program stresses conscious selection of the food one eats, with full appreciation of their costs (calories) and benefits (nutritional value). A consultation with a certified clinical nutritionist and a review of lab and functional testing with a Kronos physician are also part of the Program.

The Kronos Optimal Nutrition Program can be summarized as follows:

·          Reduction of calories to live longer. In a society where obesity and cardiovascular disease are major contributors to morbidity and mortality, reducing caloric intake will benefit nearly everyone. Studies in a wide variety of species, including mammals, have repeatedly shown that caloric restriction results in an increase in both average and maximum lifespan.

·          Conscious selection of the most nutritious foods over those with empty calories

·          Awareness and understanding of food labels

·          No counting calories or weighing ingredients.

“Counting calories and fad diets promote one thing – rapid weight loss,” said Gary Bucher, M.D., Kronos’ medical director. “People find these diets difficult to follow, restrictive to maintain, and hard to understand. They often lack variety, creating food boredom and perpetuating the yo-yo effect that results in gaining back lost weight. Many of these diets are actually unhealthy because they ignore the foundations of basic nutrition. While caloric restriction is a component of the Kronos Optimal Nutrition Program, optimal nutrition, not starvation, is at the core. The key element to our Program is replacing empty calories with nutritionally dense alternatives. The Kronos Optimal Nutrition Program is not a diet – it’s a way of eating for life.”

About Kronos Optimal Health Centre

Kronos Optimal Health Centre clients are served in a high-touch, high-tech environment, where risk for symptoms and diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment, cancer and hormonal imbalance, are assessed during eight hours of in-depth testing. Kronos Optimal Health Centre provides clients with customized optimal health services that complement those from their primary care physicians.

By applying the latest scientific research and medical technology, Kronos Optimal Health Centre provides its clients the opportunity to learn more about their health than they ever thought possible. The tests performed at the Kronos ScienceSM Laboratory assess more than 150 parameters of health (versus the 20-25 tests performed during a routine physical exam). These tests provide a detailed profile of cardiovascular risk, trace metal analysis, liver and renal function, hormonal balance and antioxidant levels. Further high-tech functional testing measures an additional 20 health factors, including cognitive function, metabolic indicators, exercise capacity, heart function, bone mineral density and body composition. During a 90-minute consultation, a board-certified Kronos physician explains test results and collaborates with the patient to create a customized plan for intervention that includes exercise and nutritional counseling and custom-compounded therapeutics to meet individual needs.
